Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
